The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Animation at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) equips students with solid animation and design fundamentals, strong technical skills, critical and analytical thinking abilities, and effective communication skills. Graduates are prepared for dynamic roles such as 2D Animator, 3D Animator, Concept Artist, Storyboard Artist, and Visual Effects Artist.
Program Structure
- Year 1: Focuses on foundational animation and design skills, exploring techniques from 2D traditional to CG animation. Core modules include Animation Principles, Illustration for Concept Art, 3D Pipeline, Creative Project, Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Digital 2D Animation, Digital 3D Animation, Digital Illustration, and Motion Graphics.
- Year 2: Delves deeper into animated content development, emphasizing critical and analytical thinking, character creation, performance, motion design, rigging, effects, and simulation. Core modules include Film Shorts & Stings: Proposal, Film Shorts & Stings: Production, Character Creation, Character Animation, Rigging for Animation, Set Design, and Effects and Simulation. Elective modules include Visual Culture and Production Planning and Management. An industrial training internship is undertaken towards the end of the year.
- Year 3: Specializes in areas of interest, culminating in a series of animation projects that showcase talent and teamwork. Emphasis is placed on professional practice to enhance employment prospects. Core modules include Team Animation Project: Proposal, Team Animation Project: Production, Animation Project: Proposal, Animation Project: Production, Research Project Report, Venture Building, Sound Design, Exhibition Design, and Intellectual Property Basics.
Entry Requirements
- STPM: A Pass with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any 2 subjects.
- A-Level: 2 Passes (Grade A-D).
- UEC: 5 Grade B’s.
- Matriculation/Foundation: A Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.00.
- Related Diploma: A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00, or its equivalent.
- English Requirements for International Students: IELTS: 5.5; TOEFL IBT: 46; Pearson (PTE): 51; MUET: Band 4.
