The Master Qualifying Program (MQP) at Curtin College builds academic and language competencies required for post graduate studies. The aim is to develop– academic communication, intercultural capability, research methodology and project management skills. Employability competencies such as analytical, interpersonal, cultural awareness would be emphasised in MQP. Upon successful completion, the graduates should be able to: It is a one semester (non-award) program designed for international students with tertiary qualifications but have not qualified for direct entry into master’s degree at Curtin University. The MQP graduates will meet the academic and English language requirements for entry into specified postgraduate programs (by coursework) at Curtin University. One-unit exemption* will be provided towards the postgraduate course at Curtin University. This two-year masters qualification will help students to step into the field of accounting and broaden their career prospects. In first year, students will begin to develop the financial, analytical, research and communication skills required of professional accountants, studying the same content as in the integrated Graduate Certificate in Accounting and Graduate Diploma in Accounting. Students will build their understanding through theoretical study and real-life cases. Students will then select between one of three majors in their second year. Students will develop hands-on experience using a range of software used in professional accounting firms, including Xero, Excel, R, Tableau, SPSS, Oracle, APEX, Pythion, ArcGIS and VSOviewer to enhance their employability. Students will also undertake an accounting research project, where they will analyse the performance of a real company and prepare a financial analysis. Towards the end of the course, students will undertake an industry-connected capstone experience, including an internship, research project or study tour. They will also be able to attend employee presentations to expand their networks, with past companies including Coca-Cola Amatil, Grant Thornton and Nexia.
