The Diploma of Bioscience provides them with a foundational understanding of molecular biology, ecology, epidemiology and chemical reactions and analysis. Students will also develop the statistical modelling and research skills required to succeed in a scientific career. This Diploma will set them on the knowledge path to help solve global issues or advise on sustainable methodology and practices. They will learn about the structure, functions and interactions of living organisms from the molecular level upwards and begin to discuss some big issues such as climate change, pandemic regulation, the protection of endangered animals and disease treatment. Then take on more advanced topics in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and human physiology. Choose subjects in data analysis, disease prevention and control, and lab-based work that'll prepare them for careers in biomedicine. In there final year, students will explore major health issues and how they affect people and society, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infections and neurological conditions. Plus, have the opportunity to add a voluntary internship to their degree and get practical industry experience while they study. An undergraduate degree in biomedicine from La Trobe gives them the option to exit early with a Diploma or Associate Degree in Biomedicine.
