Course Overview
The Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) (Data Science) at Nilai University equips students with essential computing knowledge, a strong foundation in statistics and mathematics, and the expertise to apply scientific methods in extracting, processing, and analyzing data. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, and Machine Learning Engineer.
Program Structure
- Year 1: Foundational courses including Understanding Computing, C Programming, and Database Systems.
- Year 2: Intermediate topics such as Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems Principles, and Web Development.
- Year 3: Advanced subjects like Data Mining and Predictive Analytics, Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning, culminating in a Data Science Project and an industry internship.
Entry Requirements
- STPM (Arts Stream): Pass with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Additional Mathematics at the SPM Level or its equivalent; OR Pass with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Mathematics and any one of the Science, Technology, or Engineering subjects at the SPM Level or its equivalent.
- STPM (Science Stream): Pass with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in Mathematics and one (1) Science/ICT subject.
- A-Level: Pass with Grade D in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Additional Mathematics at the SPM Level or its equivalent; OR Pass with a minimum of Grade D in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Mathematics and any one of the Science, Technology, or Engineering subjects at the SPM Level or its equivalent.
- STAM: Pass with a minimum grade of Jayyid in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM Level; OR Pass with a minimum grade of Jayyid in any two (2) subjects and a credit in Mathematics and any Science, Technology, or Engineering subject at SPM Level.
- UEC: Pass with at least Grade B in any five (5) subjects and a credit in Additional Mathematics at the SPM Level or its equivalent; OR Pass with at least Grade B in any five (5) subjects and a credit in Mathematics and any one of the Science, Technology, or Engineering subjects at the SPM Level or its equivalent.
- Foundation/Matriculation: Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and a credit in Additional Mathematics at the SPM Level or its equivalent; OR Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and a credit in Mathematics and any one of the Science, Technology, or Engineering subjects at the SPM Level or its equivalent. Candidates without Additional Mathematics are required to take and pass a reinforcement mathematics subject in the first semester.
- Diploma in Computing Fields (Level 4, MQF): Pass with minimum CGPA of 2.50. CGPA below 2.50 but more than 2.00 may be subject to internal evaluation/interview.
- Any Diploma in Science & Technology (Level 4, MQF): Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.75. CGPA below 2.75 but more than 2.50 may be subject to internal evaluation/interview.
- Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) / Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) / Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM) in Computing Fields: Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, subject to HEP Senate/Academic Board’s approval.
