The BBus (Hons) in Business Studies with Event Management is aligned with an events sector that includes thousands of companies, contractors, and freelancers involved in creating, managing, and supporting concerts, festivals, sporting events, cultural experiences, conferences, trade shows, marketing events, brand activations, product launches, and exhibitions. The sector is estimated to contribute more than €3.5 billion annually to the Irish economy and directly employs approximately 35,000 people. Event management requires strong attention to detail, effective teamwork, and a comprehensive understanding of the technical, logistical, and creative elements that underpin successful events. This programme offers a balance of theoretical and practical learning, examining current trends and practices in event management. It develops practical skills to coordinate all stages of the event process, from pre-event planning and design through to delivery, post-event debriefing, and evaluation, while supporting progression to leadership roles in the events industry. Students gain practical experience through the planning and delivery of live events, reflecting professional practice after graduation. The programme integrates both creative and business dimensions of event management, supporting the development of creativity alongside strong business knowledge. By combining technical event management expertise with core business competencies, graduates are prepared to work and progress across a wide range of event-related settings. A full semester of work placement and/or the option to study at partner universities across Europe is included, along with regular field trips and guest lectures. The programme benefits from an academic partnership between TUS and the Irish Hospitality Institute (IHI). Students within the relevant departments receive complimentary membership of the professional body during their studies, providing access to the wider IHI professional network, learning and development resources, and initiatives such as the Mentors Matter programme. Graduates also benefit from a further year of complimentary IHI membership, supporting early career development and professional progression.
