The BEng (Hons) in Precision Engineering focuses on the high-level manufacturing of engineering parts and assemblies for industries such as medical, aerospace, automotive, oil and gas exploration, and related sectors. This discipline combines mechanical engineering, design, and advanced manufacturing and production technologies. Students gain expertise in working with both manual and CNC machines to produce parts from initial design to final product. Designs are created using CAD systems, and finished components are measured using specialised equipment such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to ensure accuracy. Work placements in the third year provide practical industry experience, allowing students to understand the demands of the field and gain valuable professional exposure. The programme emphasises both individual and collaborative work on industrial-standard engineering projects. Students engage with advanced CNC technologies, robotics in manufacturing, additive manufacturing, materials engineering, and lean engineering processes.
