The BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology offers a comprehensive study of human thought, behaviour, development, personality, emotion, and motivation across the lifespan and within society. The programme focuses on the practical applications of psychology, examining how mental processes and behaviour relate to everyday life, including areas such as education, health, crime, advocacy, counselling, and mental health, supported by research and experimental methods. This four-year honours degree covers psychology and society, politics and activism, crime, research skills, social, behavioural, cognitive, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology. A core component of the programme is weekly personal development groups, providing guided opportunities for students to explore the personal impact of the issues studied. Applied Psychology prepares graduates for careers that support individuals, groups, or organisations in achieving their goals. Its applications are extensive, ranging from consumer behaviour to sports, education, and organisational contexts. An undergraduate psychology degree is required for entry into accredited postgraduate training as a psychologist, and TUS Midwest has applied for recognition by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Graduates of the programme may pursue careers in community work, human resources, employee relations, housing management, community welfare, law enforcement, market research, sport and exercise psychology, health and safety, youth work, advertising, recruitment, training and development, probation services, civil and public service, and social research roles.
