The BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology with Biopharmaceutical Science is a four-year Level 8 ab initio programme designed to provide graduates with an honours qualification in biotechnology, with a strong emphasis on biopharmaceutical science. The programme addresses the growing demand within the life sciences and biopharmaceutical sectors for highly skilled graduates with specialist training in areas such as biotechnology, microbiology, biomolecular techniques, mammalian cell culture, bioanalysis, bioprocessing, quality management, and data analytics. Designed for learners with a strong interest in biology and aspirations to build careers in the life sciences, particularly within the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries, the programme offers small class sizes, dedicated academic staff, and extensive hands-on experience with state-of-the-art biotechnological technologies. Graduates pursue careers in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, process science, quality control, and research and development across a range of bio-industry sectors, with opportunities for further study at master’s or doctoral level in Ireland or internationally. Employment opportunities are available in key growth areas including biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, bioanalytical services, and healthcare, with typical roles such as process scientist, bioanalyst, biotechnologist, production specialist, microbiologist, and molecular biologist. Graduates have secured positions with organisations including Regeneron, Pfizer, BMS, Edwards Lifesciences, MSD, Johnson & Johnson, Beckman Coulter, Serosep, and BD Medical, and are eligible to progress to Level 9 and Level 10 postgraduate programmes at TUS or elsewhere.
