The BA (Hons) English Language and Communication at UCSI University's Kuala Lumpur Campus is designed to equip students with advanced communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deep understanding of the English language. Graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles such as linguists, educators, journalists, and public relations specialists.
Program Structure
- Year 1: Introduction to the Ethnography of Communication, English Phonetics and Phonology, Critical Reading Strategies, Exposition and Argumentation in Writing, Introduction to Language and Linguistics, Introduction to Public Relations, University Life, Cooperative Placement 1, Extracurricular Learning Experience 1, Hubungan Etnik (Local) / Malaysian Studies (International), Tamadun Islam and Tamadun Asia (Local) / Bahasa Komunikasi 3 (International), Religions in Malaysia. Electives: Critical Issues in the Contemporary World, Future Directions, Futurecasting, Persuasive Speech, Thinking and Being.
- Year 2: Religions in Malaysia, Introduction to English Literature, World Englishes, Written Discourse, Spoken Discourse, Functional Grammar, Communication for Professional Purposes, Introduction to Quantitative and Qualitative Research, Creative Writing, Co-Operative Placement 2, Extra-curricular Learning Experience 2. Electives: Principles and Practices in Language Teaching, Translation and Interpretation for Beginners, Introduction to Journalism.
- Year 3: Sociolinguistics, English, Global Media and Technology, Cross Cultural Communication & English Language, Psycholinguistics, Research Methodology in English Language & Communication, Critical Discourse Analysis, English Language and Communication Project, Language & Popular Culture, Commonwealth Literature, Co-Operative Placement 3, Extra-curricular Learning Experience 3. Electives: Translation and Interpretation, Feature Writing, Educational Psychology.
Entry Requirements
- STPM: Passed at least two subjects with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any two subjects.
- A-Level: Passed at least two subjects with a minimum Grade D in any two subjects.
- UEC: Five credits and a minimum of Grade B in English.
- International Baccalaureate: A minimum score of 26/42 points from six subjects.
- Matriculation: A minimum CGPA of 2.0 with a credit in English at SPM/O-Level.
- Australian Year 12 or equivalent: A minimum mark of 60% in five subjects, or a minimum ATAR score of 65.
- Canadian Pre-U: A minimum average of 60% in six subjects.
- Other qualifications deemed equivalent to STPM/A-Level by Malaysian Qualifications Agency: Minimum overall average of 60%.
- UCSI Foundation in Arts: A minimum CGPA of 2.0 with a credit in English at SPM/O-Level.
- Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Degree or equivalent: Completed with a minimum CGPA of 2.0/4.0 (credits are required for English at SPM/O-Level).
Note: The credit requirement in English at the SPM level can be waived if the qualification includes English subjects and the achievement is equivalent to or exceeds the credit requirement at the SPM level.
