Course Overview
The Master of Science (Water and Hydropower Engineering) at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is a double degree program offered in collaboration with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. This program equips students with comprehensive knowledge in hydropower engineering, integrating mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering disciplines. Graduates are prepared for roles such as hydropower plant planner, environmental impact assessor, and water resource manager.
Program Structure
- Semester 1 (IHE Delft): Introduction to Water Science and Engineering; Hydrology and Hydraulics; River Basin Hydraulics, Geotechnics and Remote Sensing; River Morphodynamics; Data Collection, Analysis and Design.
- Semester 2 (IHE Delft): River Basin Development and Environmental Impact Assessment; River Structures; Dams and Hydropower; Fieldtrip and Hydropower Potential Assessment; Environmental Flow Assessment.
- Semester 3 (UniKL): Hydropower Machines Operations and Maintenance; Hydropower Electrical Systems; Research Methodology (Thesis Proposal); Field Assignment and Group Work; Project Management and Entrepreneurship.
- Semester 4 (UniKL): Master Thesis.
Entry Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Honours) or Engineering Technology from Universiti Kuala Lumpur with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) in a related field with a CGPA of 2.50 from any university approved by the Senate of Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
- Bachelor's degree in related sciences or technical field with a CGPA below 2.50 is acceptable for admission, subject to a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience as approved by the Senate of Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
- English language proficiency: Minimum IELTS Band 6.0 overall (Band 6.5 preferred) or equivalent.
