Course Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical-Mechatronics) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) equips students with expertise in electronic systems, control engineering, robotics, and automation, preparing graduates for roles such as Mechatronic Engineer, Electrical Engineer, and Design Engineer.

Program Structure

  • Year 1: Foundational courses in electrical engineering, programming techniques, circuit theory, electronic devices, and engineering mechanics.
  • Year 2: Core modules including electronic circuits, signals and systems, instrumentation and measurement, digital systems, and electromagnetic field theory.
  • Year 3: Advanced topics such as system modeling and analysis, microprocessors, communication principles, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and digital signal processing. Includes a 10-week industrial training during the short semester.
  • Year 4: Specialization in mechatronic engineering with courses on robotics and mechatronic system design, culminating in a final year research or design project.

Entry Requirements

  • For Malaysian students:
    • Pass STPM or equivalent with a minimum PNGK of 2.00 and grade C in two subjects including Pengajian Am.
    • Pass STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid Jiddan and SPM grade C in five subjects including Bahasa Melayu and Mathematics.
    • Pass Matriculation/Foundation/Asasi with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and SPM grade C in three subjects including Bahasa Melayu.
    • Pass Diploma in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and SPM grade C in three subjects including Bahasa Melayu.
    • Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Government of Malaysia.
    • Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 2.
  • For international students:
    • Senior High School Certificate or equivalent pre-university qualifications from government schools (12 years of study).
    • Level/Diploma in a related field.
    • Other certificates recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the university senate.
    • English proficiency: IELTS band score of 5.5 or above, TOEFL score of 500 or above (or TOEFL iBT score of 59 or above), or completion of ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) Level 107 or higher.
