Course Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy (Information System) – Research at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is a comprehensive program designed to cultivate high-quality research skills in Information Systems. This program equips students with the ability to apply Information Systems and Technology theories to analyze and innovatively solve real organizational problems, preparing graduates for roles such as researchers, academicians, CIOs/IT managers, IS professionals, and ICT consultants.

Program Structure

Year 1: Core courses including IS Research Methodology Fundamentals, IS Research Methodology Practice, and IS Research Topic Seminar and Discourse.
Year 2 and Beyond: Focused research under supervision, culminating in a doctoral thesis.

Entry Requirements

A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related fields from UTM or any other institution recognized by the university senate.
For candidates with a CGPA below 3.0, several years of working experience in Information Technology may be considered.
English language proficiency: Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent.
