Course Overview

The Master of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is a research-intensive program designed to develop advanced knowledge and competencies in areas such as Electrical Power, Electronics, Instrumentation, Control, and Telecommunication Engineering. Duration: Full-time study typically spans 2 years (4 semesters), with a maximum period of 4 years (8 semesters).
Research Focus: The program is entirely research-based, culminating in a thesis that contributes new knowledge to the field.
Supervision: Candidates are guided by faculty supervisors, with potential co-supervisors from industry.
Coursework: Required courses include:
- Research Methodology (UKEP0010), recommended in the first semester.
- One University Elective Course (U*** ***3).
- Ongoing Research (MKEE **00), registered every semester until thesis submission.
Assessment: Progress is evaluated through semester-end research reports and a comprehensive oral examination (viva voce) upon thesis completion.

Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with a CGPA ≥ 2.75/4.00.
- For CGPA between 2.50 and 2.75, admission is subject to rigorous internal assessment.
- For CGPA < 2.50, a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
English Language Proficiency:
- TOEFL: Minimum score of 550 (or 79 iBT).
- IELTS: Minimum band 6.0.
