Course Overview

The Master of Science in Information Assurance at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) equips students with advanced skills in digital forensic science, security engineering, IT risk management, and compliance with management systems and standards. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Risk Analyst, Ethical Hacker, Cryptographer, and Chief Security Officer (CSO).

Program Structure

Core Courses: Data Quality Assurance, E-Crime Investigation and Incident Response Management, Information Engineering, Enterprise Information Assurance, Access Control and Perimeter Protection, Cyber Law and Ethical Issues.
Elective Courses: Options include Information Assurance Architecture and Technologies, Enterprise Risk Management, Penetration Testing and Protection Mechanism, Critical Infrastructure Security and Cyber Threats, Biometrics in Information Assurance, Wireless Infrastructure Security, Issues in Information Assurance, Software Development and Vulnerability Analysis, Applied Cryptography, Principles of Business Continuity Management.
Master Project: Project 1 and Project 2.
University General Courses: Research Methodology, Informatics in Society or Seminar on Global Development, Economic and Social Issues.

Entry Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree with good honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognised by the Senate.
A qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate.
English language proficiency: IELTS Band 6.0 and above; TOEFL (iBT) score of 60 and above; Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) – B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE) – Score of 169 and above; The Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic – Score of 59 and above; Malaysian University Entrance Test (MUET) – Band 4 and above.
